Wednesday evening class: 7.30-9.30: 10 classes. This course will include 4 in-school classes learning the skills necessary to read Hill walking maps, use a navigation compass, respect the environment, wear the correct boots, rain wear etc. For the other 6 classes, there will be a relatively easy Saturday morning walk in the Wicklow Mountains which will include navigating challenges prepared in the classroom.
This class was first offered in January 2015 and has run very successfully ever since. All participants are very impressed with the variety of experiences offered on this course. There are 4 in-school classes learning the skills necessary to read Hill Walking maps, to use a magnetic navigating compass, and the basic skills associated with responsible hillwalking.
The most fun is to be had out on the Dublin/Wicklow hills on the 6 Saturday mornings putting the theory into practice. The walks are never too strenuous and are suitable for experienced hillwalkers and those who have never hill-walked before.
Another great aspect of this class is the comradeship that builds up in the group over the ten classes. Most participants have since formed their own hillwalking groups and others are also walking with family and friends, but with confidence that they can now navigate even in adverse weather conditions.
This is a class that could completely change your life and “never let you walk alone”
